Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring in England on Sunday, 14th-January-2024. Bognor Regis to Salisbury. 69 miles. Yay, my first trip of the year. Although it’s not going to be a long one. In fact, it might only be for one night. But who cares? I’ve got away.
I’ve been dithering about whether I should go away or not for the past few days. Because if I don’t now, it might be quite a while before I do. I’ve got more hospital appointments coming up, and before I know where I am, I’ll be having that carpal tunnel operation on my other hand.
The Ride Up
It was a pleasant ride up, but boy, did I struggle. I don’t know if it’s my myelopathy getting worse. Or whether I’m out of shape. I’d like to think it’s the latter. But I used to be able to jump on a bike anytime, without any training and cycle for miles without any problem at all. Maybe I’m just getting old! After all, I am sixty now. I even got an old person’s discount at the campsite tonight. Or rather, I didn’t. It worked out more expensive. I’ll stick with the youngsters and the backpacker rate.
Well, I’m going to wrap up in my nice, warm sleeping bag now. The temperature is meant to drop to -4 tonight; we’ll see. I’m sure I’ll be warm enough; I’ve got all the right gear. One thing about it being so cold is that it’s stopped me from having a few beers. I don’t fancy getting up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet.
