Travelsonabike2 England Thursday 10th-October-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring in England on Thursday, the 10th-October-2024. Townsend to Charmouth. 51 miles. Late start today. It rained all night and was still raining when I got up. But I saw on the weather forecast that it was due to stop at about 8 o’clock. So rather than get wet, I decided to stay until it stopped, which it did around 8 o’clock, more or less. Unfortunately, I wasn’t on the road until gone nine. I got talking to some other campers on site.

It was a nice downhill after leaving camp. In places it was very steep, so steep I could feel myself slipping forward on my saddle. But the downhills soon turned into uphills, and it’s been up and down all day. But I managed to stay on the bike and never pushed it once. Not until the end of the day that is.

It’s been rather hilly today

My stupid phone, or rather the app I was using, took me to a field rather than the campsite I’m on. And to make things worse, after looking on Google, it was back up the great big hill I’d just come down. Well, there was no way I was going to go back up that hill. I already knew how steep it was. No, I’ll continue to Charmouth and then go from there. It was more or less the same mileage.

Ha, I’m not saying it was a mistake, but. There was less than three miles to the campsite from Charmouth, and those three miles took me nearly an hour. And I think I probably walked at least half of them. The hills were horrendous, which were made worse because of the traffic. I couldn’t weave across the road. And then, to top it all, I ended up on the busy A35, which is no slow road.
