Travelsonabike2 England Tuesday 16th-January-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Tuesday, 16th-January-2024. Devizes to Salisbury. 40 miles. It was very white this morning, and there was as much frost on the inside of the tent as there was on the outside. But I was warm enough, and I’ve still not had to put my thermals on. Although I did sleep in my clothes.

Frosty tent and bicycle
A rather white tent this morning

There was a lot of dithering and changing of route first thing this morning. I forgot about looking where to go last night and just went to sleep. It was too cold to look at maps and my phone. And seeing as I hadn’t made a plan this morning, I just decided to head back to Salisbury as I knew there was a campsite there. But which way should I go?

Change Is As Good As A Rest

I didn’t want to cycle the same way back as I came. So, I decided to follow the Kennet and Avon Canal to Bradford-on-Avon. But that was too bumpy, so I came off the canal path and took a more direct route to Salisbury. Unfortunately, I did my usual thing of not paying any attention and just followed my phone blindly.

It was good in one respect, as it took me through places I’d never been before. But on the other hand, it took me, for no reason, that I could tell over a ridiculously big hill. Two hundred and thirty metres up Westbury Hill. And then, coming down the other side was a bumpy dirt track. But as I said, at least it was somewhere different.

Apparently, There’s A Plan For Tomorrow

The plan for tomorrow, as it stands tonight, is to head home for a night or two. Then, maybe head off again somewhere after that. I’ve got to make the most of things while I can. But then again, I might change my mind in the morning.0
