Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring France on Sunday, the 9th-June-2024. Le Treport to Dannes. 63 miles. Yay, I got my arse in gear and moved today. I need to get to the Hook of Holland and get that ferry back to England.
It’s been a flat ride once I got out of Le Treport. And even that was nothing major. I followed the cycle route that my phone took me. And yes, it wasn’t the most direct route, but at least there weren’t any steep hills. Unfortunately, I think tomorrow could be a different story. But that’s tomorrow.
Riding through the Somme this morning was pretty cool. There were fields of poppies everywhere. I don’t think the photos I took will do it justice.
The Somme is a flat area, and I could see for miles. What it must have been like in the First World War is hard to imagine. I also passed the military cemetery at Etaples this afternoon. But I didn’t stop; I’d had enough by then and just wanted to find a campsite and finish for the day.
