Travelsonabike2 France This Day 28th-June-2008

This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from France on the 28th-June-2008, and I’m on my first long-distance bicycle tour.

Saturday 28th June 2008. Lesneven to Quintin. 78 miles.

Well, I managed to survive the night, although I did have a visit from some dogs. But I think I smelt worse than they did, so they left. They may have been attracted because of the liver and onions I was cooking, which was probably the worst meal I could have chosen to cook when camping wild. It was rather messy and involved. But then I didn’t know I was going to be camping wild.

It was a damp start to the day with fine rain, the type that seems to get you really wet. And it rained for the best part of the morning, but it brightened up this afternoon. I’ve noticed over the past couple of days that the mornings are getting much colder. And yesterday, I had to put my fleece on for the first time since leaving home. It must be a sign that I’m getting closer to my finish.

I broke my own rule tonight and stopped before cycling eighty miles. I really didn’t fancy camping wild again tonight, so when this campsite at Quintin came up, I decided to stop. Campsites seem to be few and far between at the moment, which may be because I’ve come inland. Hopefully, they’ll be plentiful once I’m back on the coast. At least stopping a little earlier gave me a chance to dry the tent out from this morning.
