This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from France on the 30th-August-2019. It’s a disappointing and expensive end to the day.
Friday 30th August 2019. Redon to Nantes. 79 miles.
Well, I was enjoying my day until it came to camping tonight. I thought it was rather busy in Nantes as I cycled through, and I found out why when I got to the campsite. There’s a jazz festival in town, which is all well and good, apart from giving everyone the excuse to bump their prices up, and when I say bump, I mean more like sticking a rocket under them and seeing how high they can get them.
After hearing the poor girl on reception trying to justify the price to me, telling me about the jazz festival, I thought there was no point in looking elsewhere. So reluctantly, I stayed and camped. Mind you, this isn’t any ordinary campsite; this is a 5-star campsite! And I’m also on a premier pitch, for which I get electricity, a barbecue, sun loungers, a table and bench, a TV aerial point and a fridge in a little shed. And it’s only cost me €50! Fifty bloody euros! I’ve paid less to stop in a hotel! How they can justify it is beyond me. But I suppose all the time there are idiots like me who are willing to pay they’ll continue!
As I said earlier, it’s been a good day apart from tonight. I started off following the Nantes to Brest canal; then afterwards, I was cycling on quiet country roads. The only busy road was when I crossed over the Loire at Saint-Nazaire on the Pont de Saint-Nazaire, and then once over, it was cycle paths to Nantes.
