Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring in England on Monday, the 16th-September-2024. Surprise, surprise I’m still in Brockenhurst. But I do have a good excuse. Not that I need one, but any reason to stay in the New Forest is okay with me. Especially as most people have gone home and the place is quiet.
It’s all because of the spag bol! Or rather, the minced beef, I really don’t think; in fact, I know it wouldn’t have lasted another day. It was starting to smell a bit ripe this morning. And not being one to throw anything away, especially food, I decided to cook it this morning.
Ha, then came my next problem. What do I do with a pot of Ragu (the meat sauce to spag bol)? I couldn’t leave it in the tent. Either the ponies or the squirrels would have got it. Not that that worried me, disappointingly as it would have been. No, I was more worried about the damage to the tent with them trying to get it. And I certainly couldn’t put it on my bike.

In the end, I had to let it cool. Wrap it in a plastic bag (still in the pot) and put it in one of my panniers, hoping that it would mask the smell so as not to attract any animals. It didn’t work! I went for a short ride in the woods, came back, and could smell the Ragu even before I opened the tent. Needless to say, I didn’t venture too far from the tent after that. But at least by the time I had supper, the ragu had matured and tasted lovely.
