Travelsonabike2 England Sunday 1st-October-2023

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in the UK on Sunday, 1st-October-2023. Adgestone to Bognor Regis. 48 miles. It was a stressful start to the day after finding my Facebook account was locked due to unusual activity. I don’t think there was, from what I could see, but I still had to reset my password.

Last night, a group of lads on a stag do turned up at the campsite. Great, no sleep tonight, then. Haha, well, I’ve never known a stag do like it. They were initially making a bit of noise, but nothing major. They were just talking, which always carries in the dark. Well, I don’t know what happened. I thought they must have been shot or something because around 8.30/9, they went completely silent. Maybe they had gone out somewhere, but there’s nothing around for miles. It turned out that they’d gone to bed! Apparently, it was an alcohol-free stag do. Really? It wasn’t like that in my day, and I wouldn’t have gone if there was no alcohol. But hey, each to their own.

I decided to go the long way around the Isle of Wight to catch the fastcat back to Portsmouth (despite it being hillier) and went via Bembridge, St Helens, and Seaview. I also went on a detour to visit Bembridge Windmill, which I’ve seen from a distance for many years but never visited.

I also detoured to the Bembridge lifeboat station to see if I could see Guy, the coxswain of the lifeboat, whom I met a few years ago. But he wasn’t there.

I timed it well for the fastcat back to Portsmouth. I turned up and got straight on. The rest of the ride home was nothing to talk about, and I arrived home at around 4 o’clock. I was thinking that I might get away again in a week’s time; I’ve got a couple of appointments this week. But the following week was free. Unfortunately, there was a letter waiting for me at home for yet another hospital appointment for the next week. So, who knows when I’ll get away again? But hopefully soon.
