Bike-Ride to Australia-and-Beyond 10th-July-2012

Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond, Tuesday, 10th-July-2012 Gatwick to Bognor Regis. I left my hotel this morning with the intention of cycling home, but I just didn’t feel safe. With the traffic or myself, I was still feeling dizzy. So I only cycled the eight or nine miles to Horsham and caught the train home.

I arrived in Bognor without being spotted by anybody I knew, and I immediately cycled around to surprise my Vicky, who was at work. After surprising her, I cycled to Chichester to surprise Julie, who was also at work. Once I’d seen Vicky and Julie, I went down the pub and caught up with friends there.

It occurred to me tonight that I’ve not mentioned where I’m off to next. Around halfway across America, I decided that I wanted to turn this into an around the World bike ride. After reaching Australia quicker than expected, mainly due to missing out on Iran and Pakistan. So my new plan is to fly back to Istanbul once I’ve recovered from my accident. Then from Istanbul, I’ll cycle through Georgie, Azerbaijan, Kazakhistan and onto China.

Photographs from the American leg of my trip are now up on my Flickr page. Along with all the other photos I’ve taken.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
