Garry McGivern’s bike-ride to Australia-and-beyond Tuesday, 5th-June-2012 Steamboat Springs to Walden. 63 miles. After leaving Steamboat Springs, I was straight into a climb. I thought I was at the top when I passed a Western Summit sign. Thinking I’d be heading downhill, I put on a couple of layers. But the road only went downhill for a couple of miles, and I was climbing again.
I eventually reached the Eastern Summit and Rabbit Pass, which was 3000 feet and twenty miles above where I’d started this morning! It was also the continental divide, which I think means; that water now flows to the Atlantic Ocean rather than the Pacific. Does that mean it’s downhill to New York now?
I’m stopping in the small town of Walden, which has plenty of accommodation for a small town. The people are very friendly too, not the usual small-town vibe. And I’ve only dropped 1000 feet. I met two other cyclists tonight who are cycling from the Southern States of America to the Northern States. Rather them than me isn’t that uphill all the way!?
