China, Cycling The World Tuesday 6th-November-2012

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is in China cycling the World on Tuesday 6th-November-2012. Yongdeng to Lanzhou. 84 miles. I didn’t realise that I’d been at the hotel for 7 nights. No wonder my feet were itching! Enjoyed riding again, although it was really cold. I had to stop a few times to try and warm my hands up and also put another layer on!

Got to Lanzhou just after twelve and wasn’t able to pick my passport up until 2.30, so I had a while to find the security bureau. I had a rough idea of where it was. But do you think I could find it, no! As it was just gone two by now, I decided to ask some policemen where it was, who pointed me in the right direction. I’d been riding more or less around it all the time; I just didn’t see the street name.

So Much For Chinese Efficiency

Still got there in plenty of time and waited for it to open. Once it was open, I seemed to get preference over the three other people there. Fat lot of good that was it wasn’t ready and was told to come back in an hour! The poor girl on the desk couldn’t apologise enough. I tried to reassure her that it wasn’t her fault and I wasn’t worried, but I don’t think I convinced her!

Bit of a pain, really, as I couldn’t check into a hotel as they won’t let you without a passport. So I just had a little ride around.

When I went back it still wasn’t ready, I had to wait another 15 minutes. But I’ve got it now, so it’s all good.
