Bike-Ride to Australia Tuesday 17th-April-2012 Hay to Darlington Point. 75 miles. I started the day off with another puncture! I’m not so sure that the front tyre will make it to Sydney now, not without giving me loads of punctures first.
I think the dry season must have finished. I remembered seeing some signs a while back saying no burning from some date in November until some date in April. That date is obviously up now, and farmers are allowed to burn their fields. There’s been loads of smoke around today. Although I’ve not actually seen any burning, I have seen huge plumes of smoke in the distance.
I’m camping by a river tonight, which is quite pleasant. I just hope there are no crocodiles in there! Bizarrely when I was cooking supper, there was loads of noise coming from the birds. Then suddenly, they just stopped. There was absolutely nothing. It was like somebody pressed had pressed the mute button. Perhaps they saw a crocodile? Well, if you don’t hear from me tomorrow, you’ll know that there was a crocodile!
I didn’t get quite as far as I wanted to today. The wind was against me again. But I’ve still got less than a thousand miles left to cycle before I finish.
