Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 YouTube video, Bicycle Touring England 2nd May 2024, was posted on his YouTube channel today, the 13th-May-2024. It’s an early start for Garry after being woken up by a thunderstorm raging outside his tent. Things go from bad to worse after he realises he pitched his tent in a bit of a dip, and his inner tent is now floating. Personally, I don’t think there was a dip to start with. I think Garry’s been camping in the same spot for too long now and caused the dip!

After saving his tent and gear from the flood, Garry heads into Brockenhurst and sees just how much rain fell overnight. A Ford that Garry usually cycles through without a problem is now a fast-flowing stream. And the Lymington River that flows near Brockenhurst looks as if it might burst its banks.

You can watch the video below or on Garry’s YouTube channel. But honestly, it won’t be any more enjoyable wherever you watch the video! You can also subscribe to his channel. You’ll then be amongst the first to know when Garry releases a new video.

Bike outside a tent Bicycle Touring Video 12th-April-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 YouTube video, Bicycle Touring England 1st May 2024, was posted on his YouTube channel today, the 12th-May-2024. It’s a day off today, and the reason Garry came down to the New Forest yesterday rather than today. He has a doctor ringing him who is doing some research into Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy (DCM), which is what is causing a lot of Garry’s health problems.

Before his interview, Garry goes to pay for another night’s camp, as he only paid for the one night yesterday. For a change, Garry decides to walk to reception, which is at the other end of the site. It’s a lovely walk through the forest, although Garry seems to be in a bit of a rush. I think he may have been running late for his interview. After the interview, Garry heads into town to pick up supplies for the day. There’s a weather warning out for the evening, and Garry wants to be prepared.

Bicycle Touring Video 11th-May-2024 Looking up a street lined with shops

Garry McGivern’s Travelsonabike2 YouTube video, Bicycle Touring England 30th, April 2024, was posted on his YouTube channel today, the 11th-May-2024. After getting some dates mixed up, Garry decides to get back on his bike and head down to the New Forest. Garry had also been stuck at home waiting for an appointment from the hospital. He needed to have some X-rays on his neck. But after waiting around for over a week, he’s given up.

It’s a late start for Garry, so instead of cycling down his usual route via Portsmouth and Gosport. He decides to take the top road. He surprises himself with how much he enjoys the ride. And that’s despite it being a lot hillier and on the main road. Of course, it might be due to a strong tailwind blowing him along.

Travelsonabike2 Australia This Day 10th-May-2012

City skyline

This week’s Travelsonabike2 bicycle touring on this day post comes from Australia on the 10th-May-2012. I’m in Australia again this week and have reached my journey’s end, or at least my original finish.

Thursday 10th-May-2012. In Brisbane.

I put my bike in for a much-needed service this morning. Then, it was off to the ABC studios for a radio interview. Zoe (my cousin) had emailed the station, wondering if they’d be interested in my story. They were. Phil Smith was interviewing me for his weekly show “The Sunday Spin,” which is broadcast across Australia and South Asia. (listen to the interview here)

ABC had just moved to new studios, which were rather plush. Zoe and I were met at the reception by one of the girls from the show. And once we’d signed the visitor’s book, we were given our passes. The girl then took us through to the studio. It was a little daunting to sit in front of a huge microphone and all the different mixing machines around. It was a bit different from my last radio interview for Wave FM. Just before I left the UK, that was recorded outside sitting in the sun. Phil soon put me at ease, and I think the interview went reasonably well.

Errol and Zoe took me into Brisbane City this evening to meet up with the rest of my Australian family for a meal, which I really enjoyed.
