Wednesday 23rd July. Branscombe to Brixton. 81 miles.

Met a bloke at the campsite last night who’s planning to cycle around the world in 2015, had a good conversation with him on his route and different other bits, he’s unsure of his route at the moment but whichever route he takes I wish him well and I’m sure he’ll succeed! Nice early start today I was on the road for 6 o’clock and had a nice bit of downhill to start with, but it wasn’t long before I was climbing again! Bit of bad timing this morning I arrived in Exeter at rush hour and had to go round one of the rounderbouts that feed the M5, that was pretty hairy stuff! Once I was out of Exeter I managed to find a lovely cycle path that ran along the Exe estuary for about 8 miles, that’s the longest flat piece of cycling I’ve had since the Isle of Wight and that’s not flat! Ended up having a really long day, I was going to stop at about 4 o’clock but decided not too as I was sure another campsite would come up! Famous last words, it took me three hours to find another site! But at least I managed to do 80 miles today! Photo: Dartmouth Dartmouth

Tuesday 22nd July. Wareham to north of Branscombe. 62 miles.

Tough riding today there was quite a few hills, not particularly long but very steep, just the sort I don’t like, made me struggle and sweat quite a bit! Obviously I’m not as fit as I thought or maybe I’m just getting old! The heat didn’t help too much either it’s been very hot, even when I set off at 6.30 this morning it was hot, think I’ll try and start even earlier tomorrow if I’m not too knackered and can get up! Monday 21st July. Bognor Regis to Wareham. 78 miles.

It’s nice to be travelling again! At the weekend I suddenly realised that I had ten days spare where I didn’t have any hospital appointments or needed to be anywhere so I thought I’d take advantage of the situation and come away, one for something to do and two, which is more important I thought it might do my back some good, after all it’s worked in the past, admittedly I did have to ride to Istanbul before it got better but a ten day ride has certainly got to help! I was going to go abroad somewhere but not really having enough time to get very far and what with the weather being so good here I’d be a bit stupid not to stay in this country! After all I’ve not cycled that much in Britain. Fairly easy ride today with not too many hills (think tomorrow might be different) and a couple of ferry rides, always good to come via the Isle of Wight the roads are quieter and the two crossings break the journey up and provide a good excuse to rest! Quite a long day today what with the ferry crossings and also I ended up walking for a while which was a real struggle! There’s a cycle path that runs along the promenade from Boscombe to Poole, but unfortunately your not allowed to cycle on it between 10am and 6pm in July and August due to it being so busy, I did cycle as much as I could but not as much as I would have liked and to get off it and onto the roads involved some pretty steep hills so I just stuck with it.
