Garry’s bike ride to Greece. Garry’s only major tour of the year, cycling over 2000 miles to Athens! Garry had spent the past year working, trying to catch up after taking the previous year off to cycle around the world! It was now September, and Garry was suffering from a bad back! As a way of curing his recurring back pain, he decided to go on a bike ride! After all, whenever he’d been in pain in the past, a good bike ride had always cured it! In fact, Garry’s hurt was so great he only decided to go away the night before leaving!

Garry McGivern’s Twitter Photo 26th-September-2013

A cycle touring photo that was posted on my Twitter account Garry Mcgivern’s Travelsonabike2 on the 26th-September-2013 I was in the Tirol Mountains on my way to Greece when I took the photo.

At the hotel last night, there was a group of English people. They were all members of the Lotus Owners Club and were on a tour of Austria in their cars. I didn’t speak to them except to say hello and ask where they were going. It was only 7 pm, and they all seemed a bit worse for wear! One of the group was definitely drunk! He told me it was downhill from the hotel to Innsbruck! Now, when somebody tells me that it’s downhill all the way, I always take it with a pinch of salt! Especially if they’re in a car! But if he didn’t notice the Fern Pass, it’s a bit worrying!

Flickr Video Col-Du-Poirier France 21st-September-2013

Garry McGivern’s Travelsonabike2 Flickr Video Col-Du-Poirier near Monthureux-le-Sec, France filmed on the 21st-September-2013. The panoramic view from the top of Col Du Poirier, France. Unfortunately, the lens on the camera was a bit dirty.

It was a misty start to the day, but once the mist had lifted, it was a lovely sunny day. The first sunny day I’ve had on this trip and hopefully not the last!
It got a lot more hilly today with my first climb up the 433 metres of Col-du-Poirier. (See the video below.) I’ve got Col de la Schlucht at 1135 metres to look forward to tomorrow!

The video, which Garry filmed on his way to Greece, was originally posted on his Flickr Page but has now been transferred to YouTube.
