The Home Stretch: Cycling Across Australia, Mildura to Balranald
My latest bicycle touring update from Australia: after cycling over 8,000 miles across the world to Australia from the UK, I’m now on the home stretch. Cycling across Australia. Mildura to Balranald. 104 miles. It’s been another uneventful ride today. Apart from some random woman who pulled up in a car and asked me if I wanted a loaf of bread when I said no, but thanks for asking, she just drove off!

I got more sun damage today, this time on my foot. I’ve got so burnt it looks like secondary burns and has come up in a huge blister. Measuring about sixty centimetres by thirty centimetres, it’s enormous! The creams over here just don’t seem to be strong enough. The highest I’ve seen is factor 30, which really surprises me. They’re always going on about covering up over here. But then maybe that’s why I can’t find a stronger sunscreen. They prefer you to cover up.
They had the Chinese Grand Prix on TV in my motel, which was cool.
Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride, which is to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate.
