Travelsonabike2 June-July 2008 Tour Map

Map of France

June-July 2008 bicycle tour map from Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2. The map shows where Garry spent each night on his first long-distance bike ride. Behind each pin is a brief description of the day’s ride, along with the miles cycled for the day.

After the sad death of Garry’s wife, Josie, in December 2007, Garry needed something to keep him occupied and busy! So, as a way to say thank you and to also raise some much-needed funds for the local hospice that cared for her (St Wilfred’s), Garry decided on his Bilbao to Bognor bicycle tour.

Wondering where or how he could get abroad, he found out that there was a ferry from Portsmouth to Spain. So that was it. Garry would go to Spain and cycle back up along the coast of France back to England!

You can read more about this tour in Garry’s Bilbao to Bognor tour book, available to buy on Amazon.

Travelsonabike2 Isle of Wight Map

Map of the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight bicycle tour map from Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2. The map shows the route of the annual Isle of Wight bicycle ride, which takes place on the first public holiday in May. The pins show the start and finish points as well as the traditional stop midway, sort of!

A weekend of cycling, camping, walking, good food and, of course, drinking! It all started off about 10 years ago and has bigger and bigger each year! It’s attended by friends and friends of friends; everybody is welcome, and these days, there’s usually a good crowd of at least fifty people of all ages and abilities.

The weekend starts off with everybody meeting at the ferry terminal in Portsmouth on Saturday morning, getting there by whatever means possible. Most people arrive by train. Followed by a relaxing ride across the island. The event is attended by people of all ages and abilities. Although not everybody takes this route, some end up getting lost!
