Garry’s off bicycle touring for the third time this year and is heading back to France. Despite touring there only a couple of months ago! Garry’s fitness is getting better all the time. Unfortunately, now, his temporary hip has started to come loose!

Unable to get travel insurance, or at least not, unless he wanted to pay an excessive premium! Garry decided France was once again his best option! It’s not too far away and relatively easy to get back from. With several ports of departure back to England and plenty of cheap campsites!

Travelsonabike2 March 2019 Tour Map

Map of Europe

March 2019 bicycle tour map from Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2. The map shows where Garry spent each night of his bike ride to Paris and back to England. Behind each pin is a brief description of the day’s ride, along with the miles cycled for the day.

Garry had a few days to spare, no hospitals, no doctors and no physio! And rather than cycle around the same old routes in the UK. Garry decided to head off bicycle touring to Paris.

It was an early start for Garry; he had to cycle the forty miles from home to Newhaven to catch the 10 am crossing to Dieppe.

Upon arriving in Dieppe, he planned to follow the Avenue Verte into Paris. But got bored by the twists and turns of the route. And decided to leave the Avenue Verte and instead find his own route into Paris!

Garry’s had a long break from bicycle touring. (Since July 2018) But finally, it’s over! Garry has spent the last six months recovering from severe sepsis shock and a month in intensive care. He also had a temporary hip fitted.

But now Garry feels strong enough to head off on his bike; he wasn’t expecting to cover a huge distance or be away for very long! Mainly because he still has to go and see the doctors every week. And thought it might be best to stick fairly close to home.

There’s still no news or any sign of Garry getting his hip replacement! So, rather than sit around, Garry decided to go away on his bike for another tour around the south of England.

Initially, Garry was off to France! Unfortunately, after getting up early and starting to ride to Newhaven to catch the morning ferry, Garry ended up in too much pain and had to return home. After getting some stronger painkillers from the doctors, Garry once again set off but decided because of the way he was, it was probably best to stay in England.
