Garry McGivern’s cycling around the world, Thursday 23rd-August-2012, Shetpe to Sayotesh. 83 miles. What a lovely friendly landlady last night, not! Nothing in the room, not even electricity, but she wasn’t giving me my passport back until she’d thoroughly checked the room out! Not sure what she thought I’d take, the wardrobe perhaps!
Nightmare of a road again today and extremely hard going. The asphalt ran out, and it was back to like being on another planet! I feel a bit like that Mars rover. It’s also been very windy today. And as for the dust, I’m covered head to toe. Not only have I got bad roads, but I’ve also now got dust to contend with. When I get passed by another vehicle, I have to stop. It’s so dusty. I just can’t see a thing.
Several drivers have told me that the road goes on like this for 200km! Although the asphalt did return about ten kilometres before I stopped tonight. Although I think that might only be because I’m near a village, I fully expect it to disappear after a couple of miles tomorrow, something to look forward to!
I’m staying in a sort of truckstop tonight, which was a bit of a nightmare trying to get a room. The man on reception, which I use in a very loose term, kept going to the restaurant and serving food. It took me an hour to get a room. But at least I got one, although I don’t have a bath or shower. I guess I can’t have everything! But at least I’ve got electricity tonight.
