Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Friday, 27th-April-2018. Washington to Bognor Regis. 20 miles. Very short ride home today for no reason at all, as it turns out! I only headed home because I was supposed to be doing somebody a favour, but as it turns out, somebody else did it! Which is fine I just wish that I was told then I wouldn’t have come home!

Anyway, all that aside at least I’ve been able to wash my clothes properly and also dry the tent out.

I was up nice and early this morning after looking at the weather forecast for today. It was forecast to rain from the early hours of the morning until about midday apart from a break at about 6 am!

So, not really wanting to pack away in the rain, It was a bit of a dash!

For once the weather forecast seemed to be pretty spot on! And I managed to pack up and get on my way before it rained!

Now I’m home I need to force myself to keep active! It’s all too easy to sit around at home or go down to the pub all day!

I might have to go away again, watch this space!

Woodland track

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Thursday, 26th-April-2018. Lingfield to Washington. 33 miles. Well, I’m certainly dragging this tour out. I’m still not home! It’s just all a bit too painful! On any other tour, I would have been home yesterday! But it really doesn’t matter, all I would do if I was home would be to spend all day down the pub!

As difficult and as hard I’m finding this cycle camping malarkey at the moment, I’m really enjoying it, not the pain obviously but everything else!

I think it’s also helping my health more than it normally does!

Usually, when I’m out touring, I tend to have quite a few beers in the evening! But not on this one. I’ve only been having one or two! It’s too painful to have to get up in the night!

Think I’ll definitely be home tomorrow, but you never know!!

Bluebells in Selsdon nature reserve

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Wednesday, 25th-April-2018. Crystal Palace to Lingfield. 25 miles. Another short day of cycling, which to be honest is suiting me down to the ground at the moment!

Windmill

I’ve spent most of the day visiting friends in Oxted today which accounts for such low mileage, but as I said that suits me!

Path through the woods
Cycling through the woods

I decided to use the sat nav on my phone to get me to Oxted which was working fine until it took me off the road and through some woods! It was flipping hard work the track was a nightmare, all bumpy and rutted and it was all uphill!

Bluebells in the woods
Bluebells in every direction

I was cursing and swearing wishing I’d paid more attention, rather than just following the phone blindly! But then all of a sudden I was surrounded by Bluebells they were everywhere! I must admit that it was worth the effort of going through the woods, the colour and scent were amazing!

Aeroplane
One of the many aeroplanes that have flown above me tonight

My campsite tonight seems to be directly underneath the flight path for Gatwick! And the campsites annoyed me! Not only is it expensive! But they also charge extra to use the showers! Which in itself isn’t that unusual it’s more the fact that they never told me, so I didn’t have any change for them! And it was too far for me to walk back and get some! So it was a wet wipe wash for me tonight!

Travelsonabike2 England Tuesday 24th-April-2018

Dulwich college

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Tuesday, 24th-April-2018, in Crystal Palace. I decided not to move anywhere today and just stayed put. I found yesterday’s ride across London, which was only 16 miles, very hard and painful because of my hip! I thought that this morning, after a good night’s sleep, it would be okay. Obviously, it wasn’t! So rather than get the train home and be bored, I thought I would just rest up here for the day, then see how it is tomorrow! Quite literally, all I’ve done all day is stay in the tent apart from early this morning and for a while this afternoon when I went up to the camp office and spoke with Kay and Rick!

All being well, I’ll continue on tomorrow. If not, I’ll end this ride and get the train home!

Last night was a laugh with Kay and Rick, along with some lovely red wine consumed!
