Travelsonabike2 Kazakhstan Monday 1st-October-2012

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in Kazakhstan on Monday, 1st-October-2012. Who knows where I was to Almaty. 91 miles. It’s been a really picturesque ride today. The rain I had yesterday has fallen as snow on the mountain range that I’ve been following for a few days. I don’t know what the mountain range is called. But the nearer I got to Almaty, the bigger the mountains got. Although it also became rather hazy, so I couldn’t see them that clearly. Hopefully, it’ll be clear tomorrow, and I can see them. It reminds me a bit of Switzerland with all these snow-covered mountains!

The picturesque mountains

I arrived in Almaty mid-afternoon, but it took me another couple of hours to find a hotel with a room. And the hotel I have found has only got a room for tonight! Apparently, there’s some big exhibition going on in the city. It’s a bit of a pain having to move tomorrow, especially as I was hoping to spend a few days here. Still, at least the girl on reception gave me a map of Almaty with other hotels on it.

Please Donate

Don’t forget the main reason behind my ride. I want to raise as much money for cancer research charities as possible. After my wife, Josie, died of breast cancer in 2007, aged only 42. Even the smallest donation helps. You can donate to Cancer Research UK or the Australian National Breast Cancer Foundation. Click on either one to donate. Every little bit helps to rid the world of this cruel disease.
