Travelsonabike2 April 2018 Tour Map

East England map

April 2018 bicycle tour map from Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2. The map shows where Garry spent each night of his bike ride around East England. Behind each pin is a brief description of the day’s ride, along with the miles cycled for the day.

With the country experiencing a mini heatwave, it seemed the ideal time to go away, especially as Garry’s been forced to give up work! Garry was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in his right hip. And is waiting to go into the hospital to have it replaced! But without a date, why not go away? But where?

After a bit of thought, Garry decided to head to Swanage. Unfortunately, 40 miles from home, Garry’s saddle broke! Finding it too uncomfortable to carry on, Garry jumped on a train and headed home. Luckily for Garry, he had an old saddle. Although it wasn’t brilliant, it served its purpose, allowing Garry to get back on the road!

April 2018 Update

River with boats on

The month didn’t start too well, I‘ve had to give up working for a while until I get this hip sorted out! Which I still haven’t got a date for, but at least there’s some progress I’ve got my pre-op in a couple of weeks, and the occupational therapy team are coming around to my house to assess my needs! That should be interesting! A two week holiday in the Carribean or a never-ending supply of beer maybe!

While on the hip front, it’s starting to annoy me now! Some days it’s just dam uncomfortable, yet on another day it’s really painful, and it doesn’t seem to make any difference what I do!

With some spare time on my hands, I had plenty of time to make some more YouTube videos! This time they were of my cycle ride around the Isle of Wight and Hampshire last month.

In a bid to try and keep fit before my operation and possibly lose a bit of weight! I decided to go away on the bike again.

It wasn’t the longest of tours, and I certainly didn’t do the normal daily mileage that I do, I was too uncomfortable and in pain! But as I’ve always said it doesn’t matter how many miles you do, although I did find it a bit frustrating that I wasn’t able to do my normal mileage!

Despite not doing my normal mileage It was still an enjoyable little ride, and I got around to seeing a few friends that I’d not seen for a while.

I’m hoping to go away again in the next day or two, but again I doubt if I will be going too far away!

Travelsonabike2 England Friday 27th-April-2018

English lawn

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Friday, 27th-April-2018. Washington to Bognor Regis. 20 miles. Very short ride home today for no reason at all, as it turns out! I only headed home because I was supposed to be doing somebody a favour, but as it turns out, somebody else did it! Which is fine I just wish that I was told then I wouldn’t have come home!

Anyway, all that aside at least I’ve been able to wash my clothes properly and also dry the tent out.

I was up nice and early this morning after looking at the weather forecast for today. It was forecast to rain from the early hours of the morning until about midday apart from a break at about 6 am!

So, not really wanting to pack away in the rain, It was a bit of a dash!

For once the weather forecast seemed to be pretty spot on! And I managed to pack up and get on my way before it rained!

Now I’m home I need to force myself to keep active! It’s all too easy to sit around at home or go down to the pub all day!

I might have to go away again, watch this space!
