Covid-19 restrictions had just been lifted, and it was Garry’s first opportunity to get away. With foreign travel too complicated, Garry decided to stay in the UK. Unfortunately, so did everybody else, making everywhere busy, especially at the weekends! So Garry came up with the idea of touring midweek and returning home for the weekend.

It’s only a brief tour. In fact, it’s not really a tour! It’s just a couple of rides where Garry visited some of his favourite campsites. Unfortunately, Garry’s ride got cut short when he was called to the hospital for his long-awaited hip surgery.

October 2019 Eurovelo bicycle tour map from Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2. The map shows where Garry spent each night of his Eurovelo bicycle tour. Behind each pin is a brief description of the day’s ride, along with the miles cycled.

Still waiting for a date to have his hip operation, Garry decided to head off on another trip. Looking for an easy ride and one that wasn’t too far away! Garry came up with the idea of cycling some of Europe’s long-distance cycle paths. The EuroVelo routes.

He decided that the EV6, the Atlantic to the Black Sea. And the EV15 Rhine River cycle routes would make a good combination. Although Garry would only be cycling part of them. Namely the Loire Valley and the Canal du Rhône, on the EV6. Going as far as Mulhouse. From Mulhouse, Garry would pick up the EV15. Taking him to France, Germany and The Netherlands.

Behind each pin is a brief description of the day’s ride, along with the miles cycled for the day. This was Garry’s third attempt to cycle Ireland. His first two attempts ended in failure!

It’s now July 2019, and Garry’s still waiting to go into hospital for his hip operation. And because of his hip, Garry still didn’t want to go too far. And after having already been to France twice this year! Decided it would be a good idea to head off somewhere different! And maybe it would be third time lucky for Garry.
