Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Friday, 22nd-March-2024. Bognor Regis to Brockenhurst. 71 miles. Yay, I’ve finally managed to get away. Although it’s been a hard ride, which was mainly down to me being useless.
I was doing fairly well up to Lee on Solent despite a strong headwind. From then on, it was hard going. It’s probably because that’s when the hills started. If you can call them hills, that is. But any incline seems to be hard for me these days.
First, my legs go numb. Then my arms. And then my neck and back both start hurting, and I get really bad tinnitus. I seem to be cycling along on autopilot. And I don’t really remember the last mile or two. It all sounds rather worrying. But I’ve got used to it now. And although it’s been tough going, I’ve still enjoyed myself, especially when I stop.
Looking Forward
I’m not sure what I’m doing tomorrow. Everything down here in the New Forest is so wet. They’ve even closed off half the site because it’s so bogey. I can see why the Isle of Wight never opened. And I fear a lot of other campsites may have stayed shut, too.
