Travelsonabike2 England Monday 6th-May-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Monday, 6th-May-2024. Brighstone to Bognor Regis. Forty-six miles today and 167 miles over the course of seven days. These tours get shorter and shorter. But then, this ride was never about going too far anyway.

It’s been a fun weekend on the Isle of Wight, and I think there was somewhere in the mark of forty of us. Of all ages and abilities, the youngest being one and the oldest (which wasn’t me) in their eighties. I cycled across the island on Saturday and met them off the ferry before we cycled as a group back across the island. It was a long, drawn-out group, with everyone going at their own pace.

Once at camp, Dave, who organises the weekend, had cooked a lovely stew for everybody, which everyone enjoyed. On Sunday, it was a little wet, so everyone went for a short walk rather than the usual long walk. I didn’t, though. I just met them at the pub for lunch. Where we stayed for a couple of hours, drinking and playing pool. I lost.

The game of rounders

Back at camp after the pub, there was a game of rounders, with both adults and children playing. It was quite a laugh and seemed to go on for a few hours. In the evening, there was a bonfire on the beach.

Heading Home

I didn’t cycle back across the island with the others; I left before them as I was going back on the main road. It’s a little easier for me. I got to the ferry at Fishbourne (where the ferry departs) and decided to continue onto Ryde instead. And catch the fast cat.

While I was waiting for everybody to arrive on Saturday, I noticed a cycle route to Ryde and decided to try it out. It’s a cracking little route, and I’ll bear it in mind for the future.

I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere for a week or two. I’ve got a couple of hospital appointments this week and next. But hopefully, after that, as long as I don’t get any new appointments, I hope to have enough time to go to France. But we’ll wait and see on that one.
