Travelsonabike2 England Tuesday 30th-January-2024

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is bicycle touring England on Tuesday, 30th-January-2024. Canterbury to Horam. 55 miles. It seemed a very short night last night after finishing rather late. Well, it was late for me.

These days, I like to get finished and set up for the night nice and early, mainly because everything is such hard work and an effort. But I still enjoy it. It’s better than sitting around at home.

I went for a little ride around Canterbury before hitting the road properly this morning. It’s a lovely city, with its narrow streets, full of historic buildings. Although I can imagine it gets rather busy. I wanted to get a photo of the cathedral, but it was very hard. All the narrow streets surround it. Although I did pop through a small doorway and got a quick picture.

It’s been tough going today with a strong headwind and some big hills. Horam night’s stop was also further than I thought. I got a little worried cycling into Horam as it was three miles downhill to reach it. What if the campsite wasn’t there or it was closed? I certainly wasn’t going to cycle back up that hill.

Maybe the hills were a bit too much for this car

Thankfully, the campsite was there, and it was open. Although I couldn’t find anybody to pay. So I’ve just pitched my tent. If somebody’s around tomorrow, I’ll pay. If not, it’ll be a free night. And they’re always good!
