Travelsonabike2 Wednesday 15th-March-2023

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in the UK Wednesday, 15th-March-2023. Bognor Regis to Salisbury. 70 miles. Well, that was a good day, a good day’s mileage, and I’m feeling pretty good. For those that don’t know, on Sunday, I went to St Richard’s Hospital (my local hospital) and had a steroid injection in my hip. Well, I wish I’d had it a long time ago! I’ve not felt so good in years.

I was hoping to come away on Monday, straight after the injection, but the wind has been horrendous. It’s been blowing a gale. But thankfully, it had died down today.

The day started in lovely sunshine as I left home. The weather forecasts said rain was coming in late afternoon or early evening. So I was hoping to reach Salisbury before it rained. No chance. It started spitting long before that, although it was that annoying rain. Rain that wasn’t so hard that you needed to wear waterproofs. But if you were out in it for a long time, as I was, you’d get wet.

I ignored the rain until about ten miles from Salisbury, but then it just became too much, and I had to relent and put waterproofs on. That’s a long time since I’ve worn them. I’m more of a fair-weather cyclist these days!

Although the end of the day was wet, and it’s still raining now, it’s not dampened my spirits. And as I said at the start, it’s been a great day.

I think I might head up to Devizes tomorrow in a roundabout way. It’s too close to cycle direct. But as ever, we will see what happens tomorrow.

  1. Steroid injections are just the best thing ever; I’m surprised that they are not used more frequently 👍 They have certainly made a big difference to me in my sporting days and onwards.
