Thatched cottages

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Sunday, 15th-July-2018. Brighstone to Adgestone. 21 miles. It was another late start today. I did toy with the idea of stopping another night, but I thought I would probably get bored! And besides all my neighbours packed up and left, I managed to bore them yesterday then!

I decided to follow the coastal road today, even though I knew it would be tough going!

Harbour

Ventnor harbour

First of all, I had to get up St Catherine’s Point, which was a bit of a climb! And there were loads of “mamils” at the top!

Seafront

I then decided to go down to Ventnor Seafront, which I really didn’t need to! I knew it would be hard going and steep, but I forgot just how steep it was! 25% gradient! That made me sweat a bit!

I finished cycling at about 3.30. I could get used to these late starts and early finishes! But only until my hip gets fixed!

Travelsonabike2 England Saturday 14th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Saturday, 14th-July-2018. In Brighstone. I’ve decided to stay put today! I was going to move on, but seeing as I’ve got such a nice spot overlooking the sea, why move?

The day has been spent talking to my neighbours, or rather annoying them!

Taking pictures of the animals on the farm, this is a working farm as well as a campsite.

I tried to take selfies with the animals, but the only one I got was Gordon the Alpaca. He spat at me straight afterwards, ba#@!*d! Apparently, it’s when you make eye contact with him; he doesn’t like to be eyeballed!

I watched several new arrivals struggle to put their tents up! That always amuses me. And nine times out of ten, it ends up with an argument, although not today!

A pretty enjoyable day, really!

Travelsonabike2 England Friday 13th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Friday, 13th-July-2018. Brockenhurst to Brighstone. 22 miles. I saw this morning that there had been a weather warning put out for thunder, lightning and heavy rain! That’s good. I thought I’d stay here and test this new tent out to see if it leaks!

But after looking more closely at the weather, I found out the bad weather was north of here. It only said nearby!

Boats
Coming into Yarmouth harbour

After finding that out, I decided to move on! After all, they were expecting another 300 people to arrive here tonight!

I was a bit undecided about where to go once I’d left the campsite. I wanted to head down to Swanage but didn’t think I could cope with all the hills! So I opted for the Isle of Wight instead, just for a change!

Tablets
The tablets Garry has to take each day

Cycling today was pretty easy, and I’ve not really had any pain. It seems to be hurting more now I’ve stopped! But that could be down to the fact I’m due more tablets!

Tent
Camped on the cliff edge

Very leisurely ride today. I didn’t leave until gone 10 o’clock and was here at Brighstone by 3 o’clock! And that included getting the ferry!

Think I might get the train home

Camped right on the cliff edge tonight, but luckily, there’s a fence to stop me from rolling off in the night! I just hope there’s no cliff erosion!

Travelsonabike2 England Thursday 12th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Thursday, 12th-July-2018. Bognor Regis to Brockenhurst. 63 miles. I decided on Monday that I was going to cycle to Paris! So, on Tuesday morning, I got up at 3 am and was on the road by 3.30. I was off to Newhaven to catch the 9 o’clock ferry to Dieppe! But after about 10 miles, I was in too much pain and thought it was probably best not to go! So I turned around and headed for home!

Seafront early in the morning

Just as well, I did go home! A: I didn’t have enough painkillers with me! B: I remembered how much I struggled on my last tour! C: the ferries were cancelled because of the loading and unloading ramp breaking down! And D, I’d forgotten England was playing in the semi-final of the World Cup!

After getting some more painkillers and watching England lose to Croatia (even though we played really well), I decided to go away still but stay in England and head down to the New Forest.

I’ve upped my medication and am now taking the stronger tablets, the ones that have some nasty side effects and also, you’re not meant to drink with them! Well, I’ve not had the side effects apart from feeling a bit lightheaded, and I’m also enjoying a beer! They’ve also eased the pain a bit!

Nice ride down, albeit a bit hard going and painful at times, especially going uphill that really hurt!

Curry
Lovely curry for supper tonight

Not too sure what or where I’m going tomorrow; it’ll depend on whether or not I’m in pain!
