Travelsonabike2 England Monday 16th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Monday, 16th-July-2018. Adgestone to Southbourne. 29 miles. Last night’s entertainment was watching some woman who’d had just a little bit too much to drink! Trying to pack away her caravan was hilarious. Especially when she was trying to get a couple of chairs into the front cubby hole of the caravan, she must have been trying for a good half hour! Putting them in this way, then that, then that way again. When she eventually got them in, I was going to cheer, but I thought it best not to!

It was another late start this morning, but it didn’t matter as I didn’t have far to go! (In the end, it turned out a bit less!)

After leaving the campsite, I decided to go the long way back to Ryde and went via Benbridge and Seaview, which took me around the coast rather than directly along the roads to Ryde.

After getting the Fastcat back to Portsmouth, I was going to go straight home, but seeing as the weather is still good and while I’m on the road, I’d just as well stay out!

I’ve got to go home tomorrow whether I like it or not! I’ve run out of painkillers!

You never know; fingers crossed. When I get home, there might be a letter from the hospital giving me a date to go in for my new hip!!

Travelsonabike2 England Sunday 15th-July-2018

Thatched cottages

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Sunday, 15th-July-2018. Brighstone to Adgestone. 21 miles. It was another late start today. I did toy with the idea of stopping another night, but I thought I would probably get bored! And besides all my neighbours packed up and left, I managed to bore them yesterday then!

I decided to follow the coastal road today, even though I knew it would be tough going!

Harbour

Ventnor harbour

First of all, I had to get up St Catherine’s Point, which was a bit of a climb! And there were loads of “mamils” at the top!

Seafront

Seafront at Ventnor

I then decided to go down to Ventnor Seafront, which I really didn’t need to! I knew it would be hard going and steep, but I forgot just how steep it was! 25% gradient! That made me sweat a bit!

Old Shanklin

I finished cycling at about 3.30. I could get used to these late starts and early finishes! But only until my hip gets fixed!

Travelsonabike2 England Saturday 14th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Saturday, 14th-July-2018. In Brighstone. I’ve decided to stay put today! I was going to move on, but seeing as I’ve got such a nice spot overlooking the sea, why move?

Scarecrow

The day has been spent talking to my neighbours, or rather annoying them!

Taking pictures of the animals on the farm, this is a working farm as well as a campsite.

I tried to take selfies with the animals, but the only one I got was Gordon the Alpaca. He spat at me straight afterwards, ba#@!*d! Apparently, it’s when you make eye contact with him; he doesn’t like to be eyeballed!

I watched several new arrivals struggle to put their tents up! That always amuses me. And nine times out of ten, it ends up with an argument, although not today!

A pretty enjoyable day, really!

Travelsonabike2 England Friday 13th-July-2018

Garry McGivern Travelsonabike2 is cycle touring in England on Friday, 13th-July-2018. Brockenhurst to Brighstone. 22 miles. I saw this morning that there had been a weather warning put out for thunder, lightning and heavy rain! That’s good. I thought I’d stay here and test this new tent out to see if it leaks!

All loaded up and ready to go

But after looking more closely at the weather, I found out the bad weather was north of here. It only said nearby!

Coming into Yarmouth harbour

After finding that out, I decided to move on! After all, they were expecting another 300 people to arrive here tonight!

I was a bit undecided about where to go once I’d left the campsite. I wanted to head down to Swanage but didn’t think I could cope with all the hills! So I opted for the Isle of Wight instead, just for a change!

Tablets
The tablets Garry has to take each day

Cycling today was pretty easy, and I’ve not really had any pain. It seems to be hurting more now I’ve stopped! But that could be down to the fact I’m due more tablets!

Tent
Camped on the cliff edge

Very leisurely ride today. I didn’t leave until gone 10 o’clock and was here at Brighstone by 3 o’clock! And that included getting the ferry!

Kiddie train
Think I might get the train home

Camped right on the cliff edge tonight, but luckily, there’s a fence to stop me from rolling off in the night! I just hope there’s no cliff erosion!
