Garry’s ride to Australia was off to a good start, reaching Istanbul 27 days after leaving England! Julie also flew out to join Garry, and they spent a few days playing the tourist. But no sooner had Julie arrived than it was time for her to fly home! And it was time for Garry to continue his ride. Next stop, Iran.

Unfortunately, just as Garry left Istanbul, the British embassy in Tehran was invaded, and Iran was now deemed unsafe! Garry spent the next few days wondering whether he should go to Iran or not! And if not, which way should he go? He couldn’t go over Iran. It was too cold, and his only possible route was to head south.

World bicycle-tour video Europe. England to Turkey. These are some of the photos and videos Garry took on the first leg of his epic 22,000-mile bike ride around the world. The images can also be viewed on Garry’s Flickr Page.

It’s October 2011, and Garry is off on the journey of a lifetime! Cycling to Australia! (originally, this wasn’t a world bike ride; Garry was just going to cycle to Australia!)

Garry had spent the past couple of months planning this trip, but now it was finally here! He was going to be cycling to Australia!

After a great send-off from family and friends, at his favourite watering hole, the Fox Inn Felpham. Garry was off on his 14,000-mile bicycle ride.

This is the first leg from Bognor to Istanbul. A ride of over 2000 miles! On route, Garry passed through 8 countries before arriving in Istanbul and the edge of Europe.

Garry McGivern’s YouTube video on Sunday, 2nd-August-2020. The last part of Garry’s morning ride around West Sussex.

After cycling around North Mundham, Lavant and Chichester, Garry’s now heading back to Bognor Regis via Tangmere and Oving.

Not a very adventurous ride and it wasn’t anywhere that Garry hadn’t been before! But after 7 weeks of lockdown, Garry was just grateful to get out anywhere on his bike! A good morning’s ride, despite only covering 34 miles.

Garry McGivern’s YouTube video on Sunday, 26th-July-2020. In May 2020, the Covid-19 lockdown has just been eased, and Garry’s been out and about on his bike. After leaving home, Garry wondered where to go, and as usual, he couldn’t decide! All Garry knew was he wanted to get away from the coast before all the grockles arrived!

After bimbling around North Mundam, Merston and Lavant Garry now find’s himself in Chichester. Although none of these places are new to Garry, after 7 weeks of being stuck at home, they felt new!
